WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?
Keratin is a natural protein and a key structural component of skin, hair and nails. A staggering 90% of human hair consists of keratin. However, the amount of keratin in hair may be reduced due to various factors: age, negative environmental impacts, poor nutrition, stress, etc. The result of keratin loss is dull, weak and inelastic hair that visibly screams for help.
It has been noticed that by restoring the balance of hair keratin, the hair not only recovers its silky shine, elasticity and strength, but also it becomes straighter (keratin molecules penetrate inside the hair by filling in all the affected areas and smoothing the hair surface). This is why experts often refer to this procedure as the keratin treatment with a straightening effect.
The procedure when hair is coated with keratin is usually called Brazilian hair straightening with keratin. Why Brazilian, you ask? For starters, the first keratin mixture was created by Brazilian company “QOD Cosmetic”. The mixture also contained cocoa. The product was initially developed for the local women in Brazil because their hair, due to climate conditions, was especially wavy, puffy, dry and tough to control. The effect of the product was so significant that it immediately gained visibility and spread all over the globe, including USA.
Straightening mixtures consist of keratin (a natural protein of sheep wool) and other reagents that accelerate the impact of keratin.
HOW LONG DOES THE STRAIGHTENING EFFECT LAST?
The result of a Brazilian treatment lasts 2 to 5 months, depending on the mixture’s ingredients, straightening iron, hair structure and proper care after the procedure. The result lasts longer on chemically treated (i.e. dyed) hair, rather than natural hair. Hair regains its natural form gradually because keratin is washed out every time you wash your hair.
WHAT TYPE OF HAIR DOES THIS TREATMENT WORK BEST ON?
- All hair types, regardless of the structure and color (including Asian, African and Caucasian)
- Permed hair (once or more)
- Dyed, lightened hair
- Previously straightened hair
Chemically treated hair appears to absorb keratin better.
WHEN IS BRAZILIAN TREATMENT NOT RECOMMENDED?
- For very thin or weak hair.
- For pregnant or nursing women.
- If a person has individual intolerance for specific ingredients.
